alkanols 嘅 functional group 有 polar 嘅 C-OH bond,因此會有較多類型 reactions

(4) Alkanols / Alcohols functional group & related reactions
i) substitution - 下列 3組唔同嘅 reagents 和 conditions 分別產生 Cl- / Br- / I- 去踢個 -OH 出嚟
Cl - ︰ reagent: conc. HCl + ZnCl2 / PCl5 / SOCl2
condition: reflux
Br - : reagent: NaBr + conc. H2SO4 / red P + Br2
condition: reflux
I - : reagent: NaI + conc. H3PO4 / red P + I2
condition: reflux
ii) dehydration - 將-OH group 同埋隔離 C-atom 黐住粒 H-atom一齊扯出嚟 (形成一個H2O分子)
reagent: conc. H2SO4 / conc. H3PO4 / Al2O3
condition: heat
留意 -OH group 黐住嘅 C-atom 隔離左右會唔會都係 C-atom,係嘅話就有兩個可能性扯左邊定右邊果粒 C-atom 黐住嘅 H-atom,較多機會 major product 就係黐住較少 H-atom 果粒 C-atom,minor product 就係黐住較多 H-atom 嘅果粒 C-atom!
iii) oxidation -

搶咗 -OH group 裏面粒 H-atom,本來粒 O-atom 黐住 C-atom 由 single bond 變咗double bond

睇清楚 -OH group 喺條 carbon main chain 咩位置; 喺側邊 ( 叫做 primary, 第1 度 alkanol ) 或者黐住嘅 C-atom 仲有 H-atom ( secondary, 第2度 alkanol ) 就會發生reaction,產生嘅 product 都唔同, tertiary 第3度 alkanol 就無 reaction。
